Job Apply: A Job Application Plugin for Codex and Claude Code

Applying for jobs means doing the same boring motions over and over. Upload your resume. Type in the information that's already in it (or correct some shitty parser's extraction). Answer basically the same questions you answered on the last application.

Then do it all again on the next site.

It's tiresome, and much of it can be automated by agents. But you need to keep your agent grounded and on rails: working from your resume and confirmed answers, asking when something is missing, and leaving final submission to you.

That's why I built the Job Apply plugin and Companion App. The plugin saves your reviewed resume details and answers to common questions, then reuses them where they fit on later applications. Give it a job URL or list of jobs, and it fills the form in a browser you can watch. You check the result and click Submit yourself.

The Companion App gives you a local browser workspace to organize jobs, manage resume details and saved answers, and track application progress using the same information as your agent.

How it works

The first time you use it, provide a local resume file: PDF, DOCX, or TXT. The plugin extracts your details, asks you to check them, and saves the confirmed profile for future applications.

After that, give it an application link. It opens the page, matches your profile to the fields, uploads your resume, and works through the form. If it needs an answer it doesn't have, it asks.

The plugin includes guided workflows for LinkedIn Easy Apply, Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, Rippling, and Workday. Individual live application flows remain unverified, and forms change, so expect to finish an occasional field manually.

You handle logins, CAPTCHAs, and account creation. The plugin stops before final submission and summarizes what it entered so you can check the application.

Less repetition between applications

The convenience goes beyond filling in your name and uploading a file:

  • Save answers to common questions. Confirm an answer once and the plugin can reuse it when a matching question comes up on another application. It checks the question and context before reusing an answer, and asks you to review anything inferred or missing.
  • Pick up where you left off. It saves application progress, including pending fields, so you can resume an interrupted application.
  • Update your details. Use job-apply:answer-memory to review or change saved profile information and reusable answers. If you have a new resume, ask job-apply:job-apply to reset profile and rebuild from that file.
  • Keep search results. Job searches are saved as Markdown files so you can return to the results later.

Sensitive answers, such as salary expectations or work authorization, still need confirmation each time. Using one in a form doesn't automatically save it; remembering it requires separate permission.

Install it

For Codex, enable the Browser plugin and run:

codex plugin marketplace add neonwatty/job-apply-plugin
codex plugin add job-apply@neonwatty-plugins

Start a new task, then invoke:

$job-apply:job-apply

For Claude Code, connect Claude in Chrome and run:

claude plugin marketplace add neonwatty/job-apply-plugin
claude plugin install job-apply@neonwatty-plugins

Start a new session, then invoke:

/job-apply:job-apply

Find jobs, too

The plugin also has job-search skills. Use job-apply:job-preferences to save your target titles, salary floor, and remote-work preferences. Then use job-apply:job-search to search LinkedIn, Hacker News Who's Hiring, and Twitter/X and rank the results against those preferences. Use the same $ prefix in Codex or / prefix in Claude Code.

Your profile and reusable answers are stored as plaintext files locally under ~/.job-apply/.
